On Monday, 13th February students at Unity Academy Blackpool visited the Widows’ Fellowship Group at Clifton Christian Centre to spread kindness within the community for Valentine’s Day 2017.

Head of Blue House and PE Teacher, Mr Hardman said: “In Blue House we are trying to promote kindness throughout the Academy and within the local community. Our captains and ambassadors have worked extremely hard since Christmas and I am extremely proud of their commitment and attitude towards our house vision. We were greeted with open arms at the fellowship meeting and we couldn't thank them enough for letting us be a part of their day.’”

Blue House captains along with the Head of Blue House, Mr Hardman visited the widows and wished them all a Happy Valentine’s Day in the form of a card signed by all blue house pupils. They also offered each of the women a potted plant to take home following the meeting. The students gave up their own time after school on Friday to pot all of the plants themselves.

The women were incredibly grateful and commended the pupils for their act of kindness. A number of women also expressed to the children how their card will be the only Valentine’s Day card they receive this year.

The thriving house system at Unity Academy consists of 5 houses. All students from Reception to Year 11, are placed in a house in which they represent and take part in various challenges, as well as doing lots of activities within the community.
