On our quest to become a Kindness Academy, we began our 30 day challenge last week.  We have been working with the Kindness Coach, John Magee for a few years now at Unity and this is his newest enterprise to change the world with small steps of kindness each day.
The Kindness Matters 30 Day Challenge is a uniquely tailored eLearning programme created to  transform Unity Academy by cultivating kindness in the classroom.

On Monday 12th April, We began the challenge by sharing a story about how little acts of kindness can be spread far and wide. Our dedication to Kindness then began in earnest with the children completing their first five challenges by Friday, These included using kind words, holding the door open for people, wiping your feet, not pushing in the dining room and tidying up around the house.

Each day after the challenge has been introduced the children discuss the importance of the action they are going to practise and what impact it may have on others. The children also journal their daily kindness experience in the journal, as this will be instrumental on their reflection in the coming weeks when they have been consciously practising kindness on a daily basis.

When we practice kindness either to other people or towards ourselves we can experience positive mental and physical changes through lowering stress levels and increasing the body's production of feel-good hormones. This means we can help ourselves by helping others. What a fantastic Win -Win situation!

The children have been passionate about expressing the importance of kindness and some great discussions have taken place. The Challenge lasts for 30 school days although the children are encouraged to carry on being kind over the weekends too!
