Examination Policy
The school aims to enter as many as possible of the year 11 pupils in appropriate external examinations. Most of these will be GCSEs, however some may be externally accredited certificate courses or vocational qualifications.
The majority of these examinations are held in May or June of the pupil's final year. However a substantial amount of coursework or module tests takes place throughout KS4. The policy of the school is that if a pupils has followed a two year course in a subject, then he/she should be entered for the examination unless there are extenuating circumstances eg absence leading to poor attendance record or failure to meet entry requirements.
All pupils in year 9 take KS3 tests in Mathematics, English and Science. These take place in early May.
All other years will be formally examined towards the end of the school year. The year 10 examinations will take place in the Drama Hall. Every opportunity will be taken to introduce pupils to formal examination procedures in years 7 and 8. Informal assessments take place throughout the year in most subjects.
