Work Experience 2011
All pupils in Year 10 will take part in two weeks Work Experience on Monday 27th June 2011 to Friday 8th July 2011. This opportunity is an essential part of the CEIAG programme and will enable students to develop skills needed for future employment.
Work Experience is the placement of a student on an employer’s premises so that the student may undertake a range of tasks and duties. The aim is that these tasks are as close as possible to the job of an employee within a company. There should be a strong emphasis on learning where students learn to appreciate the importance of key employability skills.
To enable students to gain the most out of this experience, and to engage with employment of their choice, students, with staff and parental support, need to start the process now, even though June 2011 seems a long way away.
Work experience packs will be given out to students containing all the vital information and forms, to ensure successful placements. School is in partnership with LEBP to provide health and safety checks and placements, but the database of employers is limited. Most students prefer to arrange their own placements, as this has proven most successful in the past. Self-placements are vetted for health and safety by LEBP and it is essential that a copy of the Employers Liability Insurance is attached to the self placement form or LEBP will not process the placement for us.
The work experience pack contains a letter to parents, an acknowledgement slip, an orange health form and a yellow self placement form. Please return all forms as soon as possible, with the deadline for self placement forms being Monday 11th January 2011. This date is so far in advance as all placements need to be risk assessed and processed by the LEBP.
