Summitreks - Kayaking
On Wednesday 22nd of June 2011 we set out for our last instalment of trips the ‘Unity Tuesday Club’ would encounter this term.
For our first activity of the day we headed to the east shore of the lake and met a man called Paul who ran his own ‘Keswick canoe company’ but he showed us outdoor survival methods and the children’s task was to build their own shelter and boil themselves a well deserved cup of tea at the end!

The three groups managed this and there was a two way tie for the winning shelter. Paul was very impressed with the efforts of the boys.

At 1.30pm we headed over to the other side of Coniston to Summitreks where we got kitted up walked down to the shore area and after some short demonstrations descended onto the water in our Kayaks. With a steady breeze this made it a lot more difficult to control the Kayaks but after a while the kids got used to them and we was able to play a game where you have to throw mini balls at your opponents kayak scoring points for body and head shots! Believe me there were plenty of points scored.

After a short break out of the kayaks where the boys had chance to jump in the water off a jetty we had to make our way back into shore. Every credit to all the boys as they made it back with relative ease and once again exceeded our expectations of them.

Well that’s it for the summer term and I have to say that all the lads have been brilliant and I’m sure you would all be welcome back on future activities we have planned. Next Tuesday will be our celebration lunch over in the FAB where the kids have chance to speak about their experiences of the Tuesday Club.
