CSI Day at CLC
We arrived at the CLC wondering what to expect. We soon found out. A ‘murder’ had been committed there this very morning and we were given the task of investigating the circumstances to find out who had done it.

We were to work in groups of three. Having all been briefed by a policeman in Blackpool and then by a forensic expert who explained how to use our CSI kits, two from each group were directed, in brilliant white suits, to the crime scene. The third member stayed to watch important CCTV footage of earlier movements at the CLC.

We used the cameras and camcorders, dusted for fingerprints, tested for traces of blood, measured footprints, took notes – generally gathered evidence. We returned to write up more detailed notes, whilst the third member of each group went off in the white suits to carry out further investigations. In the main room we shared our findings.

After a working lunch we were able to ask the coroner questions about the cause of death. We were given further information about the suspects, two of whom were available in person for interrogation by all.

Everything done – now to work out ‘the murderer’! A spokesperson from each group then reported from the studio via CCTV to the whole group – saying who they suspected and why. We then saw footage of how the ’murder’ took place and who was the culprit. And we all got it right!
