Science

The science department has 6 laboratories, 2 of which have recently been completely refurbished and 4 of which have been recently redecorated. There is also an interactive whiteboard installed in one of the laboratories which is used by all classes at various times.

At Key stage 3 students are set according to their Key stage 2 SATS results, and the department also uses a baseline assessment at the start of year 7. All pupils are taught 12 units of work each year with a formal assessment at the end of each term. Before studying a unit of work, students undertake a diagnostic test to assess prior understanding. The results of assessments are used to monitor progress towards target grades.

GCSE

Students are set according to their Key Stage 3 SAT scores. GCSE target grades are set for individual students based on national expectations and SAT scores. Students follow a modular double award or single award science course. All students, no matter which course they take or tier of entry have the opportunity to achieve a grade C in science.
